Brain Training

Some of you may ask, what the books I am featuring has to do with health and fitness. The answer is absolutely nothing. These posts are more to just encourage reading. If you become interested in the topics of the books I am reading that’s great. But of course it’s more about finding books you enjoy reading. I was in the process of hunting down some books that had some focus on what I was trying to achieve so to help me along. For now it was more about just reading more so I decided to stick to the subject matter that I knew would keep me interested.

Angela Davis has long been a favourite of mine. I own a number of her books. This is actually a revisit for me as I have read “Are Prisons Obsolete” before. Davis is a political activist, academic, and author as well as a professor emerita at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She used to be a member of the original Black Panther Party. The subjects she covers in her works are my cup of tea as I am an activist myself in the same areas. Believe me her books will give your brain a thorough workout. Her writing skills are just impeccable. I most definitely learn a lot from reading her books and can confidently say even on the rereads I learn even more. They are just great for brain training.

It’s not so much about what you are reading. It’s more about just grabbing a book and reading it cover to cover. I like challenging books that really make you think. I have long had this hunger for knowledge but as I have shared, every now and then I do read books that are a bit more entertaining. I’m just an advocate of reading so even if you’re more into novels that’s fine. I just strongly believe it is just as important to exercise our brains as it is to exercise our bodies. I will be creating a post that focuses on the benefits of reading books.

Daily exercise, eating better, meditation and reading daily seems like a lot to fit into ones daily schedule considering how hectic our lives can become. At first glance we always seem to more look at the impossibilities of incorporating these healthful periods into days than the possibilities and the benefits. The fact is, not only is it possible they eventually in turn make all of the other things we must do much easier tasks to handle. I didn’t set myself any goal with the reading but I did want to at minimum read one to two books per month if possible more. If I can increase how many books I read per month great, but if not I would be good with the one to two as long as I read daily. Books are gyms for our brains believe that.
