Dips with No Chips

Upon going into month 3 I finally got my dip bar. I actually spent a little extra and went for a wall mounted dip station. I figured I would get more out of my investment. I had searched for dip bars of any sort being sold used, but it just wasn’t something that was common. I did give it a lot of thought before spending the $120 which included shipping. I definitely saw it as an investment into myself, my health and well being. I was convinced that I would most definitely use it and not let it collect dust. My daily workout routine was becoming natural so I was also convinced I wasn’t going to quit. The thought of quitting hadn’t even crossed my mind so I felt safe in making this investment.

I have always like doing dips. It’s just an excellent exercise with many benefits and best of all it’s a bodyweight exercise apparatus. Being it was a wall mounted unit it wouldn’t take up a lot of space which was also a good thing seeing I was only working with half of a garage.

Workouts were going well. I do have to be honest that dealing with all the different aches and pains was the most difficult part of it all. I was already dealing with multiple aches and pains before I even started this venture. Add soreness from a good workout to that and it all becomes a gumbo of aches and pains. I couldn’t tell which was from working out and which weren’t. Some days were worse than others but I kept on pushing myself. Surprisingly on the days I most dreaded going into workout, they would turn into my best days of training.

I kept up with not having a set workout plan. The closest I came was focusing on certain body parts on different days such as ok, today I am just going to do arms, biceps and triceps. But I always started with stretches, and some calisthenics. Though I was dealing with all the pains as I mentioned the progresses I was making were so motivating. An extra set here, and extra rep there it all inspired me to push all that much harder. I also kept hold of a larger goal. The big picture for me was I planned on performing again. I looked at all the training as getting tour ready. It had been a number of years since I had toured performing my music and life on the road is very demanding, so yes training as I was doing would be vital to a successful reentry to tour life on any level.

I had daily began rehearsing my music after working out. Believe me a half hour of performing is a great workout in itself. I will get into this a bit more in a separate post but yes I would expend a lot of energy into performing my sets as if I were on a stage in front of people performing live.

Adopting a healthy lifestyle was definitely no easy task. One must constantly push themselves and constantly remind themselves why they started in the first place. Looking at all the used exercise equipment that was for sale was a daily reminder of just how many people give up. I mean it was good for me as far as finding new equipment but at the same time it also a bit sad. I just didn’t want to be one of them. I was determined not to quit. I was also determined on setting a good example for my children and whomever else I could inspire. Most importantly I was feeling much better about myself so quitting, just wasn’t an option.
