First Weigh In


 They say you should stay away from the scale when you are trying to lose weight because your weight fluctuates a lot daily and it can discourage you. I wanted to lose weight of course but that wasn’t my main focus at all. After working out for a month and as I was easing into changing my eating habits I decided to jump on the scale. In my first month I actually lost 1 kg  (2.2 lbs). A lot of “experts” say it’s ok to lose 1–2 pounds per week or 4–8 pounds per month. If just losing weight was my goal I would have possibly accomplished the 1-2 pounds per week but I was more focused on adopting that new healthy lifestyle. With that said I was proud of my 2 pound lose. It may have not been much but it was just another accomplishment to add to the growing list. 


 In the past I never made an enemy of the scale I rather used it as a tool to encourage me to work harder. I had read that if you are going to step on the scale regularly you should do it  preferably in the morning before your morning water or coffee. Always do it at the same time and wearing the same things unless you choose to weigh in in the buff. Whenever I saw that I lost weight it would just encourage me to keep going and seeing that 2 lbs lose did just that. I was just starting to change my eating habits so I vowed that the next weigh in would go even better.


 Everyone is different. Some may lose weight easier than others but it doesn’t matter as long as you are heading in the right direction. I had been on this path before so I know to lose weight in a healthy manner takes hard work and time. You have to want it more than that Big Mac and Supersized fries. I was trying my damnedest to be 100% honest with myself. I hadn’t trained regularly in a few years. I had let my illnesses drag me down and allowed depression and anxiety beat me to a pulp. I was in my 50’s which for a lot of people it’s like end game. There is a lot of negative literature that will tell you how difficult it will be to lose weight and get in shape after turning 50. Well I wasn’t trying to hear any of that. I more looked up people that were in their 60’s, 70’s and even 80’s that were doing exactly what I am doing now. I had hope and with hope anything is possible. Nothing is over till you say it is and I say it ain’t over!
