Third Weigh In

I had waited exactly two weeks before I weighed in since the last time. It had also been a day or so over two months since I had started training. I am not exactly sure what my start date was but it was approximately October 19th or 20th 2018. It was also only a few days away from Christmas 2018. I worked hard as I continued eating much better and it paid off. I dropped another 1.5 kg (3.3 lbs). So I was down a total of 9 pounds since I began weighing in at 85 kg (187 lbs). Still a cruiser weight but a lighter one.

Quoting from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) under Healthy Living on their website: “evidence shows that people who lose weight gradually and steadily (about 1 to 2 pounds per week) are more successful at keeping weight off. Healthy weight loss isn't just about a “diet” or “program”. It's about an ongoing lifestyle that includes long-term changes in daily eating and exercise habits”. This is information I found that just legitimised what I was already doing. I wasn’t dieting, wasn’t following any programs I was just slowly but surely adopting a new healthier lifestyle and it was working for me.

Nine pounds doesn’t sound like a lot but I’ll tell you what when you pick up something that weighs nine pounds and imagine that you have been lugging that around with you it almost seems impossible. Just imagine picking up 100 extra pounds if you are that much over weight. It’s really like shock and awe. I was was really happy with my accomplishment. I felt very proud of myself. I was definitely ready to face off with the holidays coming up.

I can not stress it enough that I wasn’t and still am not in any hurry to lose weight. That is not my main focus at all. I definitely am not trying to get obsessed with weighing myself but as I mentioned, done properly the scale can be your friend, motivating and inspiring you to work even harder and that was working for me fairly well. Nothing about what I was doing was gruelling or anything like that. I was actually enjoying myself. There were some days I was even able to shut out all my aches and pains at least momentarily. It gave me a glimmer of hope that maybe I could find a way to live with these issues without letting them get to me as they did.

Something to think about. Though it is definitely true it’s never to soon nor to late to start living a healthier lifestyle, I highly recommend that you younguns out there start early in your life. Like I have mentioned I had trained before but like many I gave it up for no really good reason. It’s a real challenge to start doing what I am doing at 54/55. But again no matter your age it is worth it. After a mere two months I was feeling stronger and much more confident. I pat myself on the back after every workout because yes I was first and foremost doing this for myself.
