In Sickness and In Health

I was finally able to get back into the gym yesterday after having to take a week off because of a cold. I have trained while having a cold before it’s a perk of having a home gym. Mild to moderate physical activity is usually OK if you have a common cold and no fever. Exercise may even help you feel better by opening your nasal passages and temporarily relieving nasal congestion. But this cold was pretty rough. I had been training pretty hard leading up to catching it so I figured maybe it may be a good time to just rest until it went away. Since I began this journey I am on back in October of 2018 this was the longest I have gone without hitting the gym. It was brutal.

I was eager to get back to it. But at the same time I didn’t want to overdo it. I set my mind on doing no more than one hour of moderate training focusing mainly on triceps.

This is what my workout ended up looking like for the day.

10-1-2020     Start 5:45am - Finish 6:45am

Arm Circles                 3 sets of 50

Dips                             3 sets of 10

Tricep Pulldowns         3 sets of 15

Close Grip Bench        3 sets of 10

Tricep Kickbacks         3 sets of 20

Twists                          3 sets of 25

Reverse Crunches      3 sets of 15

Bodyweight Squats     3 sets of 25

5-3 minutes rounds of shadow boxing w/30 second rests

2-35 minute brisk walks. Mid day and Evening

Step count for the day 11,609

Overall I felt pretty good. It was nice to get back to the daily walks which I pretty much do seven days a week. Having a high energy dog makes daily walks mandatory. Something to think about if you’re looking for motivation to start walking daily.

The rule of thumb on training while you’re sick is if your symptoms are above the neck, you are good to go. If they are below the neck you are better off skipping your workout. In the past I have worked out through a common cold. This time like I said it was just a bit more severe. The rest did my body some good though. Plus I got a good amount of reading done. There are definitely no days off when it comes to working out the brain. The times I have workout while being sick was only because I have a home gym. Had I had a gym membership I would not have gone to workout. I felt the need to mention this. It's just common sense and courtesy. ThanX for reading.
